Ministy of Trade’s Deputy Minister Visit WIKA Bitumen’s Mining Site

On Wednesday, 26 May 2021, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia and his delegation made a working visit to the mining area of PT Wijaya Karya Bitumen in Kabungka, Pasarwajo, Buton Regency. Flying from Jakarta, Dr. Jerry Sambuaga as Deputy Minister, Isto Widodo and Erwin Wibowo as experts of the Ministry of Trade and the group were welcomed by representatives of WIKA Bitumen, namely Wahyudi Martono as Head of Kabungka Mining Engineering and Tito Surya as Head of Mining Production.

Also attending were Buton’s regional officials such as Regent of Buton, La Bakry, Buton Police Chief, AKBP Pol Gunarko, as well as Assistant One Secretariat for Southeast Sulawesi, Basiran, and several other leaders who accompanied the Deputy Minister of Trade's entourage to the mining area around Buton Island.

This working visit agenda is a further monitoring of the readiness and stockpile of Asphalt Buton owned by WIKA Bitumen. This was conveyed by Wahyudi Martono in his presentation on the utilization and quality of natural Asphalt Buton. It is hoped that Asbuton which is owned by Indonesia can help the Government in reducing asphalt imports and increasing revenue in the asphalt export sector.

The work visit ended with a discussion of domestic infrastructure which is still closely related to Buton Asphalt processing and the development of asphalt products in Indonesia. "This is one of the government's targets. We will coordinate with regional leaders in this case the Regent of Buton to ensure issues and challenges can be resolved," concluded Dr. Jerry Sambuaga, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Trade.
